Places to Visit in Seychelles

Mahe Island

Mahe is the largest island in Seychelles. It is the home of Seychelles' capital Victoria. 90% of the country’s population lives in Mahe. If you want a bit of adventure or simply want to relax and rejuvenate, Mahe offers you the best of both worlds. Dive deep to explore the rich coral reefs, visit St. Anne National Marine Park, the Victoria courthouse and the 19th-century Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

Anse Lazio, Praslin

It is regarded as the most beautiful beach in the world. Thanks to a perfect combination of white-sand beaches, crystal clear waters and beautiful palm trees. This is the most picturesque beach to take photos, do swimming (there is a dedicated area for swimming), sunbathe and snorkel. The most beautiful beach is sadly the busiest beach too! Arrive early (preferably before 9 am) to beat the rush.

La Digue Island

La Digue is one of the most popular islands amongst the 115 islands in Seychelles. The entire island is tiny (only 10 sq. km.) It attracts thousands of tourists from different parts of the world every year. It is also a popular shooting destination for Hollywood films and ad films. The island is also home to an endangered bird species, the “Seychelles Black Paradise Flycatcher”. Another good thing about this island is, it is free of vehicles (mostly!). Enjoy the serene beauty of La Digue by taking a stroll or riding a bicycle.

Victoria

Bordered by mountain slopes, Victoria is one of the smallest capitals in the world. It is also the business and cultural hub of Seychelles. Tourists will get a good glimpse of the Seychellois lifestyle here. You can cover the entire city of Victoria in a day’s time. At the heart of Victoria, you will find the “clocktower” that will remind you of London’s “Big Ben”.  Victoria has two shades to it - the old town and the new town. The old town has narrow streets and colonial buildings while the new town has broad streets and tropical gardens. Don’t forget to visit the art galleries and the local craft market and buy some souvenirs for lifetime memories.

Bird Island

It is the northernmost island in Seychelles. It is home to a million seabirds, hence it is known as the “Bird Island”.  Seychelles sunbirds, Madagascan red fodies, lesser noddy, White fairy terns, common mynas and many other birds can be seen here. Sooty Tern is the largest bird colony on this island. You can also see the giant land tortoises roaming around. If you love snorkeling, this is one of the best places to witness stunning marine life. To get here, you must take a short flight (~ 30 minutes) from Mahe.
