Places to visit in Turkey

Mount Nemrut

One of the offbeat tourist places on this list is Mount Nemrut, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the top of Mount Nemrut, you will find remnants of once gigantic statues of King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene, two eagles, two lions, and various Greek, and Persian gods. The west of the tombs offers spectacular sunset views as well.

Bodrum

Yesteryear’s fishing village with a mere thousand people is now one of the thriving tourist spots with an Ibiza-esque vibe. The colorful and fancy buildings here offer great photo-worthy shots and the beaches are to die for. Do not miss the historical landmarks and castles around the town too.

Ephesus

The ancient city Ephesus dates back to 10 BC and boasts one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis. A trip to Turkey won’t be complete without visiting the ruins of the temple and the Library of Celsus.

Istanbul

Istanbul is one of the largest cities in the world and it spans two continents, Asia and Europe. It has historic sites, gorgeous nightlife, stunning architecture, exotic cuisine, and whatnot. Must-Do Things In Turkey

Hot Air Balloon Rides in Cappadocia

Cappadocia's rugged landscapes would make you feel as if you entered your fantasy realm. That makes it a great place to view from hot air balloons, doesn’t it?

The rocky cliffs, green plains, and sinewy valleys make the hot air balloon ride magical and unforgettable. The almost nil wildlife makes it possible for the balloons to fly as low as they can, allowing you to view the beauty up close and far above too.

The ride takes you over wavy ridges, deep valleys, orchard-filled plateaus, and idyllic hillside villages, all depending on the direction of the wind. The flying experience lasts from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the day.

Once you land, you are welcomed back to the ground by the crew with snacks and tea. The best time to book a balloon ride is at sunrise.

Shop in the Grand Bazaar

A shopping trip to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is a must-do thing when you are in Turkey. The Grand Bazaar, or Kapalı Çarşı as the Turks call it, is one of the largest covered markets with about 5000 shops making it.

About half a million visitors take a trip every day to buy exotic and mundane items alike. From jewelry, spices, rugs, carpets, hand crafted ceramics to antiques, there is so much to shop here. Oh let us not forget Turkish teas and sweetmeats to bargain for!

Built in the 15th century, making it the oldest shopping mall in the world probably, the Bazaar now houses two mosques, two bathhouses (hammams), fountains, and eleven entrances. Do not miss to see the Burned Column, near Divanyolu Caddesi entrance, made of porphyry built by Constantine the Great.

Sunbathing pools of Pamukkale

Pamukkale, or “cotton castle”, is on top of every list of places to visit in Turkey on the internet. It is famous for the pure white travertine terraces and is one of the natural wonders of the country.

Travertine is white sediment that has been deposited by the thermal geo spring waters and solidified over millions of years. The geo water springs themselves originate from Mount Olympus.

There are cliffs, platforms, terraces, and hills that are made of these travertine sediments making it look like a surreal white castle, hence the name cotton castle.

There are 17 thermal springs with temperatures ranging from 35°C (95°F) to 100°C (212°F), and you can bathe in all of them. In fact, Queen Cleopatra herself is said to have bathed in these pools. Wouldn’t you want to follow her?

Cruising the Mediterranean

We would not blame you if you just want to soak up the warm sun rays along the breathtaking coastal Mediterranean waters. Trust us, when we say after all the lip-smacking street food and Turkish delicacies that is exactly what we would want to do as well.

In fact, cruising the shores on a yacht is what yesteryear’s fishing towns of Bodrum and Fethiye are popular for. Stop at your will for a bit of snorkeling or to visit a hot spring or just enjoy the scenic beauty, while enjoying life on the boat.

Secret white beaches with turquoise water, steep hill slopes covered with forestry, and hundreds of tiny islands that can offer your favorite water sports do make cruising more and more fun, don't they?
